来自ETH的三天图解静力学Workshop

 Intensive Weekend Workshop 



Rhino的插件RhinoVAULT是由苏黎世理工学院的BRG研究组研发,最早在使用推力网格分析方法(TNA, Thrust Network Analysis)去创造仅有受压构件的结构的研究中初具形态。RhinoVAULT给予了一种直观快速的索道式找形方法,它用着图解静力学等技术的相同优势,但对三维问题提供了可行的扩展。使用RhinoVAULT,不仅可以创作出令人满意的结构形式,还能透彻地理解隐含其中的结构原理。

 

本次工作营由BRG研究组的杨文倩老师亲自授课,她毕业于UCL和ETH,研究领域包含数字雕刻、运算化设计、机器人制造和3D打印等,她也是RhinoVAULT2的开发人员之一。工作营分为两部分,Track 1(18 Hours)介绍推力网格分析和图解静力学,带大家学习RhinoVAULT2的各种功能和工作流程,并展示一些经典结构案例的建模过程,最终指导大家在给定的条件下创造自己的VAULT结构, Track 2 (12 Hours)则会涉及到3D打印的知识,进一步介绍如何使用3D打印制作出自己的结构模型。


课程详情


The Rhinoceros® plug-in RhinoVAULT, initially developed by late Dr. Matthias Rippmann at the Block Research Group (BRG) at ETH Zurich, emerged from the research on structural form finding using the Thrust Network Analysis (TNA) approach to intuitively create and explore compression-only structures.


Using reciprocal diagrams, RhinoVAULT provides an intuitive and fast funicular form-finding method, adopting the same advantages of techniques such as Graphic Statics, but offering a viable extension to three-dimensional problems. By developing this plug-in, our goal is to share a transparent setup to let users not only create pleasing forms but also to give them an understanding of the underlying structural principles.


This exclusive workshop will introduce the general background of TNA and graphic statics, walk through main functions and workflow of RhinoVAULT 2, showcase a few classic examples, guide students to create their own vault structure within a given condition, and provide a method to visualize and materialise the result.

导师介绍


Wenqian Yang


Wenqian is a Research Assistant at the chair of Digital Building Technologies, Institute of Technology In Architecture (ITA) of ETH Zurich. She has worked in Block Research Group ETH as research assistant and was part of the development team of RhinoVault2.


Wenqian Yang is an architect and designer who has studied and practiced in digital sculpting, computational design, craftsmanship, robotic fabrication and 3D printing with an interest in exploring fabrication-informed design methods.


Wenqian obtained an M.Arch degree with distinction at the Bartlett with the thesis project named Soft Core, exploring malleable, material-behavior-based design and application. After that, she pursued the MAS Digital Fabrication program at ETH Zurich with a focus on robotic fabrication, during which she worked as lead designer of two large-scale pavilions: Up Sticks for the V&A museum Dundee, UK and Concrete Choreography for Origen Festival Switzerland. Her thesis project Design Freedom in Eggshell contributes to the smart dynamic casting research topic at ETH.

课程要求


选择 Track 1+ Track 2 的同学须有Rhino软件基础并需承担3D打印的费用。

Some basic Rhino skills might be needed for Track 2 for time-efficient learning of fabrication methods of the scaled model. Students who will continue to Track 2 and several resources for online 3D printing services will be shared during the workshop.
